Reparative Practice: A Conversation on Equitable Development

JOIN IN ON THE CONVERSATION

How can we as architects, engineers, planners, developers do our part to create sustainable, inclusive and thriving communities?

Join us for a live virtual panel discussion with industry leaders Odetta MacLeish-White, Managing Director of the TransFormation Alliance, Nathaniel Smith, Founder and CEO of Partnership For Southern Equity and Donell Woodson, Lead Trainer and Consultant in Community Development at The Lupton Center to discuss the topic of reparative practice and equitable development. We will set up a framework for where things stand as it relates to the systems of urban development and get into conversation about the opportunities, challenges and potentials of our greater developing communities.

Prior to the discussion, we invite all participants to watch this short video to get acquainted with the history of development in America: Segregated By Design

Here are some of the topics we’ll get into:

• Overview of “where we are” and “where we want to go”
• Biggest opportunities and challenges towards creating equitable developments
• Strategies for architects, developers, and community advocates to embed equity in our initiatives
• Understanding the meaning and significance of being a “bridge-builder”
• The importance of narrative and “sense of place”

Whether you’re in architecture, a designer, developer, urban planner or just want to engage in the efforts to create a great community, this is a conversation we can all engage with.
